JJ's Handyman Service

We purchased a house where the previous tenants had done a lot of damage. With a bathroom remodel, and a multitude of repairs throughout, JJ's Handyman Service has helped us to restore it to a safe, comfortable home. We hope to have Jeremy repair the deck this spring, and continue to call on him as needs arise.

I normally leave reviews to promote and recommend people and companies. However, I, unfortunately, cannot recommend JJ's Handyman Service.We hired him to fix a pocket door to our bathroom that was off the rail that I was unable to fix myself. When I had called he said he could do it and we set up a time for him to come over and work on it. Jeremy arrived hours later than when he said he would be there. We were told he would need to order parts and the door, which was taken off the rail for inspection, was left off and our bathroom was exposed while we waited for him to return with the parts to fix the door. When he returned, over a week later, he was again hours late. He worked on the door for over three hours, coming out every so often to check our other pocket door to see how it closed compared to the one he was working on. He asked me to look at the door and he showed me that it slid harder than our other door. He thought a lubricant would fix it. He also pointed out that one of my tiles in the bathroom was broken. He made it seem like it was that way before he came, but it was not. I noticed that he was using a crow bar to wedge between the floor and the door to raise the door. I suspect this led to the crack in my bathroom tile. He left with the door sliding hard and making a strange noise (It turns out the hardware he installed was the wrong hardware and it was scratching against the door frame). We were charged roughly $230 for his work.The door got worse over time and we had to call another handyman to take a look at it. This person informed us that the wrong hardware was used and he could fix it. He installed the proper hardware in half an hour and charged us $100. The pocket door now works fine.When we informed JJ's Handyman Services that we had to hire another person to fix his work we requested that he refund us for the incorrect parts installed and $100 for the second handyman hired to fix his work. He agreed that he made mistakes but disagreed that the wrong parts had been installed. He refused to refund us the money, saying it was against his company policy, but instead offered to credit us the money for a future project we might have his company do. We informed him that we did not want to hire him again and would not use a credit. He said he would talk to his partner about the refund and get back to us within a week. It has been 3 weeks and we have not heard from him.

Do not recommend. He canceled on me 45 mins before supposed to be there.

Called to schedule installation of an exhaust fan/light in my master bathroom. He scheduled me about a week out (reasonable) and told me he would be there for service either Friday or Monday if he couldn’t get to me Friday. Monday came and I hadn’t heard anything by noon so I called and left a voicemail asking about an arrival time, as I took the day off again to be available for his arrival. No call, no show. Tried calling again at the end of the day, no answer then either. No call the following day either (today). Very unprofessional and unreliable.
